Now that we’re in the midst of summer, you’re probably spending a lot of well-deserved time outdoors with your furry friend. However, there is one safety tip that we want to remind you about as you begin to spend extra time outside, and that is paw protection.
The summer heat can be brutal to your pet’s paws. Pavement, blacktop, sand, you name it, can burn your pet’s paws if you’re not careful. Here are some preventative measures you can take with your pet to ensure their sensitive paws stay protected.

Walk Your Dog When It’s Cooler Out
The best time to walk your dog is either early in the morning or late in the evening. The pavement is the hottest in the afternoon and could potentially be harmful to your pup’s paws if you go for a long walk in the middle of the day. Not to mention, it also makes them feel uncomfortable walking on hot pavement.
Walk on the Grass When Needed
Sometimes walking in the early morning or late at night doesn’t always match with your schedule. If you end up taking walks in the middle of the day, make sure to give your dog breaks. Try letting your dog walk on shady grass whenever it’s possible. On a hot summer day, try taking your dog to a park to run around so that you can avoid the hot concrete.
Care For Your Dogs Paws
There are plenty of ways to care for your pet’s paws. During the summer, your Yorkie’s paws can be susceptible to cracking, peeling, and other damage. To prevent excessive damage, take time to moisturize their paws. You can moisturize daily, and you can feel relaxed knowing that your dog is comfortable.
Another safety precaution that you can take is putting wax on your pup’s paws before a walk. Paw wax will help protect your dog’s feet from harmful elements like chemicals, road salt, sand, heat, rocks, gravel, and more. If you prefer not to use wax, dog shoes will also protect your pup’s paws from these surfaces. Just make sure you’re getting the right size.
